Ryan’s clinical experience was divided\nbetween professional athletes and private musculoskeletal physiotherapy\npractice. He has worked as Physiotherapist to tennis player Greg Rusedski,\nformer world number four and US Open finalist as part of the Dream Team\nassembled by Pat Cash to resurrect Rusedski’s career after a series of\ninjuries saw him drop from four in the world to 73, with the tennis press\nwriting his career off as a result. With a strong emphasis on rebuilding his\ngame to reduce load on his body while improving performance along with a\nrehabilitation program to improve his body’s ability to withstand such load\n(fastest serve in the world at the time), Greg returned to his winning ways,\nclimbing up the rankings and winning several more ATP tournaments during the\nremainder of his career which lasted another seven years. Ryan also spent\nseveral years at Essex County Cricket Club and has worked with European Tour\nGolfers and many Olympic and Commonwealth Games athletes, most recently with\nthe Bronze medal winning Vanuatu Beach Volleyball women. Ryan has also been a\nclinical tutor in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy on the Griffith University\nprogramme. Tissues don’t fail because of pain, they fail because of load.\nAware that many of the conditions presenting in clinical practice were a\nresult of overuse or more correctly overload, Ryan recognised that current\ntaping products were ineffective at absorbing load or contributing energy to\nreduce the workload of the musculotendinous unit. They were also ineffective\nat modifying the biomechanics whilst still permitting the full range of motion\nnecessary to perform the complex skills required in many athletic pursuits. At\nthe same time, Ylva who graduated from Umeå University whose work centred on\ncomplex paediatric and neurological physiotherapy recognised the benefits of\ntaping in this way to improve mobility and function in this population. After\nseveral years of development to address the limitations of existing taping\nproducts, Dynamic Tape was launched commercially in 2010. It is an adjunctive\nclinical tool in the management of muscle strains and ligament sprains,\noveruse and biomechanical injuries like achilles and patellar tendinopathy,\nplantar fasciitis, rotator cuff pathology, tennis elbow, shin splints etc. but\nalso equally applicable in Paediatrics, Neurology, Hand Therapy and even in\nRespiratory care. Biomechanics is defined as “the study of the\nmechanical laws relating to the movement or structure of living organisms.”\nDynamic Tape has been designed to allow an external force to act upon the\nlevers of the body. If a genuine force can be applied (and this requires\ncorrect application), the forces that the body must generate are modified\naccordingly.
