To be eligible for\nthe study, women had to have moderate or severe menopausal discomforts as\nidentified by the superman menopausal index (KMI), a questionnaire that\nmeasures changes in uncomfortable feelings associated with menopause.\nPotential benefits were assessed by kmi questionnaires at 6 weeks and at 12\nweeks. The kmi evaluates a number of menopausal parameters, including hot\nflashes\/cold sweats, paresthesia (numbness and tingling), sleep interferences,\nnervousness, melancholia (sadness or gloom), vertigo (dizzy spells),\noccasional fatigue\/weakness, palpitation (pounding of the heart), formication\n(sensation of crawling of the skin) and muscle or joint discomforts. A\nseparate questionnaire assessed changes in vaginal dryness. By the end of the\nstudy, the average kmi score was significantly lower in the estrog-100 group,\ncompared to the placebo group. Vaginal dryness was also significantly improved\nin the estrog-100 group. The individual kmi scores that improved (compared to\nthe control group) were hot flashes\/cold sweats, paresthesia, sleep\ninterferences, nervousness, melancholia, vertigo, occasional fatigue\/weakness\nand muscle or joint discomfort. The estrog-100 group had no major adverse\neffects.
